Top 5 Things To Do In Colorado Springs

5.26 Cheyenne Canon 04From museums to outdoor adventures, there are plenty of fantastic things to do in the Pikes Peak Region without spending a dime. Here at Cheyenne Mountain Resort, we have compiled our five favorite free things to do in Colorado Springs.

  1. North Cheyenne Cañon Park

Encompassing over 1,600 acres, North Cheyenne Cañon Park sees nearly half a million visitors each year. Known for the abundance of wildflowers and the flocks of hummingbirds they attract, the park offers amazing bird watching. Additionally, the extensive trail system includes paths appropriate for hiking, biking, running, and even horseback riding. Dogs are welcome in North Cheyenne Cañon Park, but they must be leashed.

  1. Red Rock Canyon

If you’d like to get out in nature and let your dog run off leash, you definitely want to check out Red Rock Canyon. This open space includes nearly 1,500 acres of stunning red rock with two off-leash dog loops. Another truly unique feature of Red Rock Canyon is the freeride bicycle park where you can test your bike stunt skills in a fun and challenging environment.

  1. Paint Mines Interpretive Park

Rated one of the twelve most colorful natural wonders in the world by the Mother Nature Network, the stunning pigmentation of Paint Mines has drawn people to the area for generations. Erosive forces created the park's vibrant geological formations, including amazing hoodoos and spires.

  1. Uncle Wilbur Fountain

Colorado Springs is an extremely family-friendly town, and nothing embodies that quite as well as the Uncle Wilbur Fountain. Part of Acacia Park, the fountain is more than just a great splash pad. At least once an hour, the bright blue dome at the top of the fountain rises up to reveal a whimsical horn player and his adorable dog. This joyful musical interlude never fails to get kids of all ages dancing and splashing.

  1. Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum

With a mission to collect, preserve, and share the history of Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Region, the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum is an ever-expanding collection of art, artifacts, and an archival library. Guided tours and special events are offered year-round, although the museum is closed on all city holidays.

Jump In Our Lake This Summer!

5.17 Water activities on the lakeAt Cheyenne Mountain Resort, we look forward to Memorial Day every year. The holiday weekend marks the unofficial beginning of summer, and that means we can finally open up our lake and beach for our guests. Throughout the summer months, our expansive, private resort lake offers a variety of water recreational opportunities you won’t find at any other Colorado Springs Resort.

Beach Activities

Relax at our lakeside beach this summer. Our sandy beach is the ideal spot to soak up the summer sun, read a good book, or dig your hands and shovels in to build a sandcastle. There’s ample room to toss a beach ball and walk along the shore, dipping your toes in the water. We even have two lakeside volleyball courts that are perfect for large groups, families, or even just a pickup game with other resort guests. It’s a great way to make new friends!

Water Sports

Guests can also enjoy complimentary boat rentals all summer long. With 35 acres of lake to explore, there’s plenty of space for all sorts of water sports. The clear smooth surface of the lake makes it perfect to paddle out in a kayak, even for those who have never tried it before. If you prefer water sports with a bit more speed, you can let the wind propel you forward and give windsurfing a go. Or, you may want to try out the newest trend in water recreation, stand up paddle (SUP) boarding. What’s SUP? We’ll show you how it’s done, and we’ll bet you’ll be hooked on this SUP-er fun craze.

Lake Swimming

At Cheyenne Mountain Resort, we love swimming pools. In fact, we love them so much, we have four of them right here on site. But we also know there is nothing quite like splashing in the lake with the majestic Rockies in view. Swim, splash, play and enjoy all that quintessential Colorado has to offer.

Ready to head out on the lake? Hot weather will be here before you know it, so the time to book your Cheyenne Mountain Resort summer vacation is now. Contact us today to make your reservation.

Join Us For Summertime Family Fun!

5.10 Family Summertime Fun Op2The temperatures may still be a little chilly, but there is no question that we are all thinking about the upcoming summer weather. And that means it’s time for your family vacation! Here at Cheyenne Mountain Resort, we offer a wide array of fun activities the whole family will enjoy all summer long. Listed below are just a few of the great things you can look forward to when you book your stay with us:

Zoo Breakfast

Here’s an activity that appeals to the animal lover in all of us. Throughout the summer, we will be partnering with animal caretakers from the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo to host Zoo Breakfasts in our Mountain View Restaurant Lobby. Get up close interactions with tortoises, prairie dogs, snakes, lizards, insects, and even a skunk! Zoo Breakfasts will be held every Saturday morning from 8:30-10:00 AM this summer.

Dive-In Movies

This summer, we’ve combined two of our favorite family activities--swimming and watching movies--to create an experience you’ll just want to dive into! Our dive-in movie nights are a lot like going to an old-fashioned drive-in, but instead of viewing the film from your car, you can watch from your pool floaties. All summer long, we’ll show a different family-friendly movie each Saturday night at our resort pool. We’ll even provide complimentary popcorn and lemonade. All dive-in movies start at sundown. Gourmet S’Mores on the Terrace

Anyone can make a great s’more. All you need are graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate. But at Cheyenne Mountain Resort, we aren’t satisfied with just great s’mores…we go for the extraordinary! S’mores are the quintessential summer dessert, which is why we are thrilled to announce our Gourmet S’mores Bar will be open every Friday and Saturday night this summer. Roast your marshmallows to perfection and then pile on the toppings: caramel, peanut butter, banana chips, candy, bacon, and s’more!
