1.27 Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, and Cave of the Winds adventuresLooking for outdoor adventure on your next vacation? Situated at the base of the Rocky Mountains, Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs offers the perfect home base for a variety of fun and exciting outdoor recreation. From exploring underground caves to scaling America's favorite mountain summit, there's something for everyone here.

Pikes Peak

At 14,115 feet above sea level, Pikes Peak is one of the most popular mountains in the United States. Visitors drive, bike, hike, and even ride the Cog Railway to the summit. Hiking Pikes Peak is a difficult, but amazing excursion. Barr Trail, the most popular hiking trail at Pikes Peak, is the length of a full marathon round trip and includes an altitude gain of 7,800 feet. This challenging hike offers spectacular views, especially once you reach the summit. Visitors who prefer to bike or drive can take Pikes Peak Highway, a 19-mile paved highway with stunning scenery. The highway will take you all the way to the summit, where you can taste for yourself why the gift shop's most popular souvenir is a delicious donut.

Garden of the Gods

A registered National Natural Landmark, Garden of the Gods includes over 1,300 acres of breathtaking Colorado wilderness. The park includes 15 miles of trails across a range of difficulty and accessibility levels. Guided nature walks are offered twice daily, and full-color trail maps are available at the Visitor's Center if you would prefer to explore on your own. For those visitors who see the towering red sandstone rock formations and want to climb – you can do that too. Garden of the Gods offers unforgettable rock climbing experiences in one of the country's most historic climbing venues.

Cave of the Winds

Since 1881, guided tours have led visitors underground to explore the Cave of the Winds. Today, the Cave of the Winds offers three different tour options as well as thrilling attractions and family-friendly games and activities. The half-mile Discovery Tour is perfect for families. During the tour, you will explore the underground caverns and get to experience complete cave darkness. The Lantern Tour offers more adventure as you explore deep into the mountain, with only hand-held lanterns to light your way. For those who want a real spelunking adventure (and don’t mind getting muddy), the Caving 101 tour is perfect. Crawl and climb your way through the undeveloped sections of the Manitou Grand Caverns. This guided excursion lasts two hours and is lit by flashlight only.
