The Wounded Warrior Games Return to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs

Wounded Warriors

The Wounded Warrior Games were first held in 2010 and were designed to introduce injured service men and women to Paralympic sport competitions with the hopes that they would remain physically active in their communities when they returned home. 

This amazing event will be held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs with competition dates beginning September 28th and ending October 3rd.  Five U.S. teams representing all branches of the military will compete in sports ranging from archery and swimming to wheelchair basketball and more.  This year will also feature an individual competition, the Ultimate Champion, and it is expected that more than 200 service members will be attending this week-long event. 

The Wounded Warriors competition schedule is as follows:

Sunday, September 28th  
2:15 – 3:15 PM Opening Ceremony* Wounded Warriors
4:00 – 6:00 PM Sitting Volleyball

Monday, September 29th  
8:00 AM - 3:30 PM Cycling
5:30 PM – 7:00 PM WC Basketball
7:30 PM – 9:30 PM Sitting Volleyball  

Tuesday, September 30th  
8:00 AM – 3:30 PM Swimming
5:30 PM – 7:00 PM WC Basketball
7:30 PM – 9:30 PM Sitting Volleyball

Wednesday, October 1st  
8:00 AM – 3:30 PM Archery  
5:30 PM – 7:00 PM WC Basketball  
7:30 PM – 9:30 PM Sitting Volleyball (Bronze)
 
Thursday, October 2nd  
8:00 AM – 3:30 PM Track & Field  
5:30 PM – 7:00 PM Wheelchair Basketball (Bronze)
8:00 PM – 9:30 PM Sitting Volleyball (Gold)

Friday, October 3rd
8:00 AM – 3:30 PM Shooting  
5:30 PM – 7:00 PM Wheelchair Basketball (Gold)

More information on the Wounded Warrior Games can be found on the U.S. Paralympics website.  The public is invited to the competitions which are free although opening and closing ceremonies are by invitation only.
