Ghost Towns in Colorado Springs

If you are looking for something different to do with your family while visiting Colorado Springs, you'll want to check out some of these Ghost Towns around the area. After all, how often do you really get to see a Ghost Town while traveling?

Ghost towns worth checking out in Colorado Springs TRAVEL_PEOPLE_couple looking at a map

Day trips to ghost towns in and around Colorado Springs reflect the history of Colorado when Colorado’s mining boom in the late 1800s brought promises of abundant riches to miners and created town after town for the droves of miners who flocked to the mines.

The miners and the industries and businesses that sprang up around them are long gone, but the ghosts of the towns remain as testimony to the starry-eyed people who raced west to get rich. Wander through the abandoned streets where outlaws and others faced off in showdowns. Step into the saloons that offered thirsty miners a respite from the drudgery of digging, some nourishment to get them ready to dig again, and ladies to keep them company while they rested.

Visit the tree-lined streets of Vicksburg and Winfield and look for the ghostly gold-hunting burros. Founded in 1867 after prospectors camping in Clear Creek Canyon’s burros wandered down the creek to where gold lay in the creek, Vicksburg had a unique water system of ditches.

Carson, 12,000 feet above sea level, was somewhat inhospitable to miners, but was still founded for them. Uptop is not completely deserted, as its 1877 railroad depot is now a museum. Goldfield once held the highly productive Portland Mine.

Come visit the ghost towns in Colorado Springs and stay at Cheyenne Mountain Resort. We offer a wide range of amenities for the entire family to enjoy. After a day visiting ghost towns, you can relax by our pool or enjoy dinner and dessert at one of our on-site restaurants. We look forward to welcoming you!

Sunscreen. Given the high altitude of this state, you will want to pack your lip balm and sunscreen. Year-round protection from the elements and preventing the chance of Sunburn, is important when visiting Colorado.
